RemNote (Roam-like web app)

Despite it’s clunky UI, I think RemNote (remnote.io) deserves its own thread here, given some of its relatively unique outlining functionality. Although it bills itself as being focused on spaced-repetition learning, it in fact includes some unusually powerful outlining features. Basically, it does most of what Roam does, but it has more robust capabilities for linking to specific nodes rather than just linking to pages.
(I suppose there is some feature overlap here with Tinderbox, Outwiker, and Infoqube. I am eager to try Tinderbox’s ziplinks and so forth, but I am without a Mac for the moment.)
Anyway, has anyone else here been experimenting with RemNote?

As per the website: “RemNote is the first spaced-repetition powered note-taking tool that lets you structure knowledge exactly in the way you think about it.” I’ve always been turned off by this. Not because it isn’t cool. I might even use it as an alternative for something like Anki https://apps.ankiweb.net/ But it also makes me feel that it isn’t going to be as useful for other purposes. Maybe that’s unfair and it really is as good as Roam, Workflowy, Dynalist, etc. for general knowledge management, but the text does not give that impression. Has anyone tried it?

That does look pretty cool. Alas, online only (which will suit some people – Dr Andus? – very well). But interesting, and hopefully they’ll release a desktop/mobile version at some point.

Have been messing with it. Some thoughts:
- the hierarchical folder/document organization coupled with the Workflowy/Roam type outlining is useful. I personally often have trouble jumping back into notes in pure outliner software.
- the note system is built around building concepts, which have descriptors and linking concepts, all of which have special notation https://www.remnote.io/a/structuring-knowledge-in-remnote/4cSP28pBtAgrNTLkg
- still trying to figure out all the quirks of the SRS
- UI is quite programmerish
- in my 10 or so hours of use have ran into a few bugs/quriks, but nothing major and no data loss
- has an API if you’re into that sort of thing
Worth a try IMO.
