This is someone I’ve been following for a while and often has some thought provoking posts. It’s short, but really hit home for me with my use of outliner software. I mostly use RightNote and NimbusNote. I often run into the problem of taking notes on a book, for example, and then after a period of time the notes not making as much sense to me because I didn’t find a way to keep the original context. Here’s an interesting take.

Keeping a day log, journal, or the like, is helpful when reviewing one’s notes—taking care to always date notes so that you can check the journal for contemporaneous context when reviewing the notes. Luhmann took care to associate his notes with keywords (really, just a short aide-mémoire) as a spark for recollection and for finding related notes.
