This update has multiple problems—do not update it. If you already have, you can revert to 2.0.0.17 using the following procedure which good guy Frank was kind enough to give me:

I can help you iroteit!
I downloaded the same STUPID update and had many of the same problems you had BUT I FINALLY found a way to revert the Fox!
Go to:
ftp://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.org/firefox/releases/2.0.0.17/win32/en-US
and download the EXE file ... NOT the ASC file. Once you D/L this file install it and FireFox will go back to 2.0.0.17 and work again!
YOU MUST TURN OFF THE AUTOMATIC UPDATE FEATURE IN FIREFOX!
Tools>Options>Advanced>Update>Un-check the box for FireFox
I sincerely hope this helps!!!

Thanks Cassius,
I was wondering why someone would still use v2 of Firefox, since v3 has been out for sometime and seems stable enough. Then I realised that my Asus eee PC Firefox is v2 and there’s still no obvious way to update it to 3 (I admit that I am practically a Linux newbie as my past infatuation with the system lasted too little for me to remember anything). So following your warning I didn’t update to 2.0.0.18 and am apparently happier for it.
Cheers
Alexander
