I remember using this app years ago. It has been taken back by the original developer Dan Schimpf and Macjournal 7.0 is free,

https://danschimpf.com

This is actually a really very detailed and powerful software that has many features. I have always loved the timeline view.

There have been a few threads discussing MacJournal here.

Just a quick note to let people know that the ridiculously powerful MacJournal is still being updated, and is still free to download (from Dan Schimpf’s website at https://danschimpf.com It’s reached version 7.0.4 (version history here: https://danschimpf.com/macjournal/history.html

The name doesn’t do the software justice, implying that it’s simply a journaling app. Nothing could be further from the truth: MacJournal is an information and knowledge management app with an enormous range of functions. I use it as a general information repository, but am well aware that I’m not taking advantage of more than about 2% of its capabilities (rich text storage and search).

As the name suggests, it’s only available for macOS at the moment.

Cheers,
Bill

Their site says that it requires High Sierra. Is that right? Since HS was 2+ OS versions ago, that would seem like a problem.

Hogh Sierra or above. I’m on Mojave and it works fine.

Yep, I’m running on Catalina, and MacJournal is running on it with no problems at all. I suspect Dan doesn’t always bother to update the background details.

I was trying to think of a comparison, and the closest I can think of is InfoRecall on Windows.

Cheers!
