Hi,
The public beta testing for TheBrain 11 started two weeks ago and is in its early stage.
https://forums.thebrain.com/post/thebrain-11-alpha-now-available-10276772
One of the main new features is the internal markdown editor for notes.
Further, you can add multiple notes per thought or link and define an external editor you would like to use for writing and editing.
I have selected Typora as my external markdown editor if this is necessary.
Please note that there is no compatibility between the notes created in v10 and notes created/updated in v11.
Best,
Dominik

Thank you for the notice, Dominik/
Looks like TheBrain is calling this an alpha test rather than beta, because, they say, they haven't tested the app on various platforms.

Hi Paul,
I agree, the wording is not consistent even from the company side.
TheBrain v11 runs on Win10 and on macOS Mojave and I haven't found any differences yet.
But the current testing for v11 is more alpha than beta.
Best,
Dominik

Now that TheBrain 11 has been released, what is the verdict?
Is it an all new / much improved version?
I gave up on TheBrain when I tried it two years ago and I just couldn't run it on my Windows hardware then, even with TheBrain support on the case.
I still have the same Windows laptop (but it's now 2 years older), so I'm wondering if I'd be just wasting my time trying out v. 11 - unless it's a more optimised version?

I've installed it, but haven't really used the new features yet. That said, I find it very responsive and OK resource-wise.
This webinar next week may be of interest, as it supposedly relates to a real-life application:

I agree -- they seem to have done some performance tuning and improved the synchronization reliability. They also rewrote the note editor -- it's sort of hybrid of markdown and rich text editing. I think the internal browser for displaying web content is more reliable and faster.

As others have said, there have been a few tweaks and refinements. For me the major change is that in the previous version I found the note editor to be so unresponsive that it was unusable, however with V11 it performs as expected without the disconcerting lag.
As with all releases it seems like they are always running to stand still. With the last few releases it has been to get the native app back to where the java one was. Releases are more about app sustainability and less about new features. They have kept going whereas other apps have faltered and haven't migrated to keep functioning with ever evolving operating systems.

Thanks for all the feedback. I'll try to install it again and see if it runs any better on my hardware this time.
