Have not seen anything regarding, yet the website is unreachable. Unknown if just server or closed the doors.

I have been using TreePad Biz for a number of years and would be sadden if no longer supported.

Site's back up - but not with good news:

We are sorry, to inform you, unfortunately TreePaad Fun Center has Closed.
There is no easy way to say this but we have come to a point, after seeking professional advice, that we clearly have no alternative except to close the business effective immediately.

We apologize for the lack of notice but the final decision to close was finally reached this past weekend. We are truly sorry for any hardship this may cause you.

TreePaad has struggled financially since the fire a few years ago which resulted in the need to borrow funds to keep the doors open so that we could pay our financial obligations timely. The recent slowdown in business was the final blow as we have not been able to pay key vendors and lenders to keep the doors open.

We are considering a reorganization plan with a possible investor, but we can’t make any promises at this point. In any event, any plan to financially reorganize will take at least 60-90 days.

We will post any information and updates to this website if any news develops.

We thank you all for your past support and business.

Sincerely,
Patti, Lee, Jim, Don. Paula, Grama & Pop

I thought I was visiting treepad.com, turns out I visited treepaad.com. Oops and duh.

Yeah, i shaked my head already after the first sentence. Keeping a software website up and functional costs not more then $5 per month and can run fully automated. Thats how most of our niche software sites work. Don't need an investor for this.

But Treepad is like all this other software from the late Windows Me era. They now slowly die on old age one by one. I think the last update was about 14 years ago. And this includes any website update to modern look and feel which is even more telling that nobody is interested in this business anymore.

Personally, I use TreePad Biz for (just about) all my writing needs, business and creative. It's a remarkable tool and I'm hoping that it's not gone forever.

This development caught me by surprise and I'm in *desperate* need of their freeware TreePad Viewer app which allows others to view TreePad files. I (once) had a copy of it but (apparently) I no longer do and it doesn't seem to be available from any repository that I could find.

Anyone have a copy of TreePad Viewer or have a link where I could find it? You'll have my eternal gratitude if you can help me.

You can download most files from the Wayback Machine (web archive site). Used the 2019 Feb as reference below.

https://web.archive.org/web/20190211155647/http://treepad.com/treepadviewer/

https://web.archive.org/web/20190223132036/http://www.treepad.com/conversion_utilities/

Of course with the Biz version you can export to HTML or RTF if the conversion utilities can not be found. Have to check which files I have downloaded locally.

I have many gig of data across many files from the last 15 plus years and while the application still works will not even try to migrate to something else. The portable USB ability makes work notes/instruction/ procedures second only to large binders of paper. Never fully trust computers/servers will be there when there is trouble (work in IT).

Another alternative to view and use the treepad files is the Cherrytree Software (Windows, Linux, Open-Source).
https://www.giuspen.com/cherrytree/
This software can import treepad-files.

Not well, unfortunately, at least not the complex file that I have. Same story with conversion utilities.

Thanks so much for the link; I hadn't even considered the wayback machine but, thanks to you (and Firefox), I've got the file now.

Tried to download it with Chrome, incidently, but Google evidently thought it was infected and refused to download it. Yet another reason to hate Google; the file is fine. If they're going to build an AV into their browser, they could at least use a competent AV.

Treepad's demise is sad but it hasn't really been improved for years and it still works very well. I expect that it'll continue to work and meet my needs for at least the next decade or so. I've tried (just about) every alternative I could find over the years but TreePad just works so well that I've stuck with it.

About the only thing about it that *doesn't* work well is the export/conversion of complexly-formatted files. That's why I needed the viewer. I have one such file that I've been working on for months and I'd be up Poop Creek without that app. Thanks again

Understood regarding the export, never an easy process. Even publishing to HTML to internal web us not great. Have had good results using the Epub for some work reference documents.

There are so many little things that Treepad does that are not available in others. Being small size is a bonus. Cherry tree is huge compared to it and lacks the features / ease of use.

Downloaded here no problem from Chrome. Just need to click on the down arrow and select that the file is safe

Better safe than sorry right ?

BTW, the new Edge (Chromium, Canary channel) is really nice (and fast !)
