An interesting new app I've just come across is MindForger, described as a "thinking notebook and Markdown IDE".
It's by the author of MindRaider, which I found a bit convoluted to use. MindForger has a much better design I think.
Positive features:
+ Free and open source
+ Cross-platform
+ Markdown-based
+ Local storage only

Looks interesting. Unfortunately there is no iOS version…

I say the same thing all the time about perfectly good software not having a Windows version.
