I recently completed a fundamentals webinar of the Mission Control ( http://www.missioncontrol.com/ ) productivity methodology. I write about it here for two reasons: first, if I recall right it was here that I heard of the methodology in the first place (though it was long ago and it could actually have been at the outliners.com forum)
Second, and most important, I have the impression that the MC methodology lends itself to integrating the kind of tools that we discuss here more than GTD and other similar approaches. In particular, MC includes five main tools: the Capture Tool, the Calendar of Occasions, the Not Doing Now list, the Never Doing Now list and the Relevant Information system. All these tools can be either paper or hardware/software driven.
Without going into depth on the methodology I’d say that the combination of these tools gets quite close to the kind of Holy Grail often discussed here, with the exception of a writing tool (the MC methodology isn’t aimed at creative work in particular, but I believe that its emphasis on Now makes it very suitable for such work).
I am still experimenting with the system, and especially its standard practices. If others here have taken such a course I’d be interested in sharing views about the suitability of software tools in the MC implementation. I would also recommend the webinar to others interested in productivity best practices, though the price is rather on the steep side.
(The usual disclaimer stands about my not being in anyway connected to the MC organisation other than as a happy customer).
