Chris,
As topics add up, it would be nice to have some kind of navigation tool at the left column, perhaps reminiscent of an outliner tree, plus a calendar (just a suggestion as I know that you are quite interested in the aesthetics of the forum).
I don’t mind the google ads, but I’d prefer to have them on a right column, or on the bottom. Right now I feel they interfere too much with the content.

Thanks, I will be collecting up suggestions. I’ve already thought of quite a few things that I didn’t think of before the forum was live.
What do you envision being in the forum navigation on the left? I understand the calendar for viewing messages on certain days, but what else do you think should go there?
Thanks,
Chris

I support earlier Alexander’s request to move Google ads to the right or the bottom. On the left I would like to have all navigation and management means: login button, account, calendar view, search, export of messages (as you mentioned earlier), in the future: (a) “entrance” to the file section (to make it possible for registered users to upload archival files, templates, examples etc.; (b) links section (with a collection of links to most popular programs and sites discussed on the forum).
Three other things:
- At present, topic with the most recent message appears on the top, but the message itself is at the end. It would be much more convenient to have it also at the beginning.
- As the site greets me after login “Welcome, Wojciech”, it would be more logical for me if the next line sounds: Your (not “My”) Account.
- It would be nice to have the ability to send private messages to the authors of particular posts. To keep the privacy, there could be an option in the account settings not to allowed this.

Thanks for the ideas. I planned on using the left bar for all account tools and global elements (search field, login form, etc.) but ended up going for launching sooner rather than sorting out all of these things at first. I will be keeping a big list of everyone’s suggestions.

I tried sorting the messages both ways, but it seems that reading a topic is more natural if it flows in the order that messages were posted. I think the best thing would be to have a way to jump to the newest message right from the topic list, perhaps by clicking on the person’s name on the topic list.
