A new version of MindNode -- a handsome mind mapping application for Mac and iOS -- is available on the two App Stores.
https://mindnode.com
There's a few new features, but this is mainly a more polished version of an application that was already well polished. (A new menubar app is available for collecting notes on the fly and later creating a mind map from them). I've always enjoyed using MindNode -- not as well-featured as IThoughts (whose interface is getting a tired and dowdy) or MindManager on Windows (which will never not be dowdy).
Pricing of the update on macOS is a bit confusing -- either nothing, or $14.99 or $39.99 -- but when I installed the trial it offered me a low price because I used an earlier version, so I took the offer.

Mind Node has been useful for me with one limiting factor. As nicely as the program works, it bugs me a little to have to have a central thought. Too many times thoughts best swarm as peers rather than descend from a hierarchy.
In your brush with the new version, is there enough there to justify the upgrade? I'm kind of thinking about it. Haven't decided.

Sorry about the duplicate. No idea how I managed to do that. My error, I'm sure.

Hmm, perhaps you're thinking of another app. The current version 5 does not require a single central node -- and going back several years I can see numerous maps with multiple "main" nodes. Anyway, definitely v5 lets you click or press the background as often as you wish to add a "new main node". There is no requirement for a hierarchy.
I'm not the person to ask to "justify" upgrades on mind mapping products -- I always buy the upgrades. But there is a two week trial of v5, I think, if you want to work on justification.

I understand. The general model is one or more nodes with a constellation of dependent nodes. It's hierarchical, but very useful.
I've upgraded to 5. It was a small fee, and I like to support companies that support writers.

Yikes, it went from Mind Node 2 all the way to Mind Node 5? I do have Mind Node 2, and tried to buy 5 on the Mac App store, but it is telling me that I have to fetch a code that is being sent to a cell phone that I haven't owned in 11 years.

Am I still the only one who gets an error message from the App Store when I try to buy Mind Node 5? It keeps telling me "Before you can make purchases, PayPal must verify your account", followed by a spinning wheel that never stops.

I think you might need to sign into PayPal in Settings first. (Just guessing - I haven't used PayPal with the App Store yet.)

I went back into my Apple account and sort of re-iterated my PayPal information and saved it. Now the app store approved the sale. Very strange.
