Yes, unless you have a free licence for NVivo, it would be my last choice for use on a Mac. (I’ve never used the Windows version. I suspect it works better on that platform.) As mentioned, Atlas.ti works much smoother and it seems to me to be clearly the best software for “pure” QDA.
Also as mentioned, MAXQDA is also very good, and, if you buy the Plus or Analytics Pro versions you can get statistics and other functions added on. I’m not sure whether that is the best way to go, or whether it makes more sense to get pure QDA software and learn R or something to do stats.
Not mentioned yet, I believe, is Quirkos, which is cheaper than most alternatives and looks pleasantly tactile.
