I have been trying to control myself from the social media and other Internet distractions. After trying a couple of tools, I think I have really great ones now. I want to share it to you guys.
Two good apps I discovered which do really block me are.
1) Freedom: blocks the Internet: there is no mercy: no exceptions. When I am really into deadlines, I have to fully block myself off Internet, this is a powerful friend.
2) Focus (https://heyfocus.com): this is another app which can truly block applications. Once activated, you can not cheat this app. Kills back the Safar in a flash of seconds.
——
And, on top of blocking myself, I also want to track the time I spent working on something. 3 good tools
1) Timing: good app: it does the tracking well: fairly simple
2) RescueTime= the reports are amazing. The richest report you can have. But, you cannot download them unless you pay monthly fee. Plus, they are not good friends with Freedom. Once Freedom blocks the Internet, Rescuetime cannot track. Otherwise, RT is great tool for tracking. The categorizations: which are distractions, which are productive tasks (apps)...very useful
3) Qbserve: this is the perfect tool I find for tracking because it is RescueTime+Offline. It has almost everything that RS has. It doesn’t require Internet.
So, the combo works like this:
- Freedom+Qbserve = working offline = Deep work
- Focus+Observe (rescuetime) = if you need some Internet: but, want to block just some apps and social media.
And, good book on the topic: **Deep Work: Rules for Focused Success in a Distracted World**—the audiobook is nice.
Yes, we the PIMPers also can concentrate!

Well, for some sorts of “productivity”, yes, that’s an appropriate term. Usually here it is CRIMPing

Timing is mentioned by Dellu above. For those “lone wolves” who like to track and time their activities each day, either for business purposes or purely for their own satisfaction, Timing 2 is now in beta. It shows significant improvements on the first version (at the cost of slightly greater complexity), is less “mechanistic” in its tracking procedures, and less brash in its UI. In my limited experience, it’s become a desktop competitor for RescueTime and its online competitors (whose utility, as pointed out above, can be considerably diminished by “deep work” apps which make the user into an Internet Trappist).
Timing 2: https://betalist.com/startups/timing-2. No price yet.
