For those who don’t already own a Surfulater license, and are interested, the program will be on a 50% sale on Bits du Jour on Friday 22/2:

From my part I have had a very positive experience with the program which is currently used to store most of the non-PDF content related to my MBA.
Surfulater was recently featured as one of Network World’s 10 slick and cool IE extensions: http://www.networkworld.com/slideshows/2008/010408-top-microsoft-ie-extensions.html
Indeed, the program is focused on collecting web content and can also bring in most of what one can put in the clipboard. Additional ways of getting content may be supported in the future.
Development has taken some major steps in its functionality recently, such as external links to its content and a very powerful (and beautiful) web publishing feature. Next will be the addition of tagging, based on a new SQL database. Neville Franks, the developer, is open to suggestions without diverting from his original vision, decribed here: http://blog.surfulater.com/?p=49

P.S. The usual disclaimer, about my only association to Surfulater being that of a happy customer, stands.

Btw. the Archivarius search program that’s occasionally mentioned here, supports searching Surfulater databases as of February 19th.
I must give Surfulater another try, though it expired (of course, I already tested at least once in the past) and their suggested way to restart trial period didn’t work for me.
Generally I find that UR is better for storing webpages, but it doesn’t allow editing. The Scrapbook FF extension seems work better for both storing and editing, but it lacks all the extra features that Surfulater has.

Because of this thread I was looking at surfalator again but I’m a UR user wishing that it had some of surfolator’s abilities when it comes to web captures. Until that happens have you figured out a way to integrate surfolator w UR?

Darn! You beat me to announcing it :-) It happened after I suggested it to the developer when I registered, who got to work on it straight away (Saturday evening). By next morning he had sent me a test version that could index .surfulater files. I imagine that it was relatively easy, as they are plain XML (text) files. I was nevertheless impressed by his dedication.

Yes, and it was one of the reasons that I decided to use Surfulater more extensively (the other was that I find it very convenient; then came the best web publishing I’ve seen as yet and I knew I had made the right choice). You can link to surfulater articles from any external program through automatically created ‘external links’, i.e. sulkb://... Read more about it here: http://blog.surfulater.com/2007/10/15/surfulater-v230100-released-external-links-and/

Alexander, thanks for the posts on Surfulater. I look forward to trying Archivarius.
For those who have tried Surfulater in the past and have had trouble re-starting the Free Trial I’ve just updated the FAQ page item http://www.surfulater.com/faq.html for this.
——
Q)Can I restart my free trial period?
A) Yes of course. We want to give you every opportunity to fully evaluate Surfulater. Simply UnInstall Surfulater and delete the My Documents\My Surfulater folder. Next use Start|Run|Regedit, and go to: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Soft As It Gets\Surfulater and delete this key. Then install the latest Surfulater release and your free trial will start over.

The new bit of information is to delete HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Soft As It Gets\Surfulater. If anyone still has a problem please let me know. My contact details are at: http://www.surfulater.com/contact.html
I have also just posted about the Tagging capability I’m working on for Surfulater which you can read about at: http://blog.surfulater.com/2008/02/20/tagging-surfulater-articles-a-sneak-peak/
