TapForms Organizer—a “customizable database” for OS X and iOS—is getting upgraded from v3.x to a new v5 on August 4. When Apple killed off Bento years ago, TapForms became the replacement for lots of folks. I think it’s pretty good—although the sync from OS X to iOS has been unreliable and somewhat confusing. Problems that are supposedly fixed in v5. The owner announced a “48 hour sale” starting on August 5, for purchases through his site. I am not sure what happens with customers who purchased through the App Store.

The new versions were released today. I’m not impressed—v5 does not improve much over v3, and the sync between OS X and iOS is no better. Sync seems to be one-directional over WiFi. The “cloud” option is not iCloud but, oddly, is IBM Cloudant. Release notes unhelpfully say that Cloudant may or may not charge a fee.
TapForms (without sync) is still a good product, but I wouldn’t recommend investing in an upgrade.
