— Misli - organize notes and visually correlate them in a graph - link to files, also…
This is a program I just found that runs on Windows and Linux.
While searching through Softpedia, I came across this link:
http://sourceforge.net/projects/misli/
Actually, the link on Softpedia points to a direct download, but the sourceforge project page is the same. I sent them a note about the update of the program to a new version.
I include the Softpedia page link, here, as well:
http://www.softpedia.com/get/Office-tools/Diary-Organizers-Calendar/Misli.shtml
Note, Misli version 2.0 is at the sourceforge.net Misli project page, the softpedia link still points to Misli version 1.0,

Note, I just installed it on Windows Vista SP1. If you have trouble just after installing the application, on its first run, try running the app from the start menu… I first tried from the program files folder, but this was not necessary. It starts now without error from the start menu, for me, without any changes to my install.
One last note… I first tried installing version 1.0 of Misli, unsuccessfully. This might have been due to my download, I am not certain. But, just after installing version 2.0, I had the same problem on the first run of Misli 2.0. I then tried running the app from the program files folder which I didn’t need to do.and it ran successfully. I tried from the start menu entry of Misli 2.0, and it ran, as well.
Hope this helps, if any are having trouble… I know, it might not make much sense, but just retracing my steps.

Sorry for my redundancy, was going to include my second message in the first post, but decided to wait. I felt it would be a good idea, though, to give my experience, anyway, if it could help anyone, on my trying to run this program for the first time.
Note, I think Misli 1.0 does not install to program files, I think it just runs directly from the file, not sure though. Version 2.0 has an installer/uninstaller.

Isn’t it strange how the brain works from one person to the next? I see these types of tools and it just as well be an electrical engineering schematic. They just make no sense at all to me. I practically break out in hives when I have to look at a mindmap. Yet tree-based information with folders and notes and sub-folders and child notes - I’m in heaven. It’s a little like the text versus icon thing—I have used an incredible piece of software since 1996(!) from MicroSeconds called EasyDesktop. It’s a desktop-replacement program in it’s 9th version that is *text* based, multiple pages with space for almost 700 buttons with a text label that launches programs, documents, websites, etc. It’s the first program I put on any new PC. It’s a whole different way of getting around in Windows, but being a very text-centric person, I absolutely LOVE it. It never took off like I thought it would, but I still think this just “makes sense” (to me). It’s still developed by a really nice guy in Southern California.

Wot a hoot! I can kind of see the appeal, for a very, very text-focused personality type.
