Outline+ updates

The rather nice OneNote clone Outline/Outline+ has just been updated to include iCloud (Drive) syncing. Now, whether this is a good thing depends on your view of iCloud, but it's a useful feature.

Outline is very easy to underestimate. In my experience, its native file format is almost as good as OneNote and runs rather faster. Of course it costs money, whereas OneNote doesn't. On the other hand, it's also fairly flexible with respect to syncing; it doesn't insist you stick with OneDrive.

I'm going to reprise my role as your contrarian today, Bill, and advise caution whenever dealing with Outline+. I've not yet worked with today's release (the iCloud Drive sync feature Bill mentions) -- but over the years the app has had several catastrophic updates that trashed sync and notebooks. So -- be backed-up and be careful.

OTOH, OneNote on other platforms gets incrementally better and it's less important to have a OneNote wannabe. Just my opinion, of course.

Ah, interesting. Thanks for the warning, Paul. I confess I've not had much trouble with Outline, but I won't pretend to be a heavy user. Losing a lot of data would be seriously annoying!

My take is similar to Paul's.

For what it's worth, Outline+ is 60% off on softpedia:

(I already own it but never use it, preferring Microsoft's own Mac app. But if it keeps getting better maybe I'll give it another spin.)

Now what I'd really like is an iPhone OneNote app that has the ability to disable spellcheck...

For whatever it's worth -- I've noticed that Gorillized has been busy recently (since May 2016 at least) updating Outline with features that ease a transition away from CircusPonies. You'd need to look at the release notes for Outline (it's not called "Outline+" anymore) to see how much of a CP notebook can be imported.

Now that Circus Ponies is gone and Aquaminds seems to be neglectware, I'm trying to keep current with any other outliners for Mac that use a notebook paradigm. I'm glad to see that Outline has a 2-week trial period that is fully functional.

On another topic, Neo just got an upgrade, but I think it is primary just keeping up with the latest OSX.
