Who needs a desktop computer when you can have a desk like this one? I’d love to have one of these, seriously…

Too bad they ruined the photo with that laptop…

As an idea, that is rather stunning.
Except for the poor trees.
And how much cooler would it be if it was an LED touchscreen-topped desk a la “Quantum of Solace”...?
Just saying!

I think the analog desk could be made sustainable a lot more easily than the mountains of smart phones, tables, PCs etc. that the world is producing, using, and throwing away every day. For one, you wouldn’t need to recharge it every day, and it’s biodegradable and recyclable.

I dunno… That would be too cold for the elbows all day and keep you awake all night with its blue light.
But it would be nice to be able to digitise the analog desk notes nonetheless. I could imagine a scanner/camera mounted on the top that could take a picture of your writing and OCR it, convert drawings to images, and send them all automatically to your favourite notes database. Then the notes could be searchable, yet you always would have paper hard copy, which, as we know, can be preserved for hundreds of years (while we don’t know how long our digital data will be readable in their current formats).

Well, you’ve convinced me.
Now I’m going to have to build one. The nice lady did provide instructions!
Hm. Where did I put those toilet rolls…? This is trickier than it looks…!!!

I was inspired enough to make a portable makeshift version for myself (using a roll of wrapping paper over a piece of flat wood), and the huge amount of space was perfect for working out a knotty problem.
However, the designer (http://kcamara.com/ANALOG-MEMORY-DESK) missed a trick: a second “monitor” for reference. Basically, I need to be able to look at one scroll while working on another.
So ideally one would also need a vertical part, just like the horizontal one, to be able to peruse another scroll. I might just build something like this one day (or buy it from Kirsten Camara, if she beats me to it). :)
