Wow! This will give nightmares to traditional book publishers and authors. People have already been scanning books and posting them on the internet, but with this thing it could massively accelerate.

I’d love to have one though. It beats scanning with a flat bed scanner… But it’s a bit pricey, especially with the import duty (though they offer free shipping to the UK). And it would be a hassle to return, if there was anything wrong with it.

Also, I already have ABBYY FineReader, so that would be superfluous…. But, nice kit!

It makes one question the benefit to the writer of writing books (especially text books). The only consolation is that would-be pirates will still have to turn the pages.

Although it’s a bit of a self-inflicted wound on the part of the publishers. Their response to the new world order was the e-book. However, the electronic formats sold via Kindle and Google Player are almost useless for academic type of work (such as making and exporting annotations with real page numbers).

But these days I find myself preferring to use Dragon NaturallySpeaking while reading a hard copy book, and dictating notes and quotes straight into my database (CT) , rather than scanning and annotating PDFs and then extracting notes.
