Is anybody using Ariadne 6.1? (http://www.prokarpaty.net
I was very fond of Ariadne in version 5 and before, but whilst Yuriy has been trying to re-develop it from scratch (with associated interface changes and weird behaviours) for version 6 it hasn't been usable for me. However, looking at the newest version, it seems that it's coming together, but the test version is fairly crippled by being read-only, so I would love to hear any feedback from registered users of version 6.
Cheers,
Graham

This came straight out of the blue for me and I thought I knew most outliners at least as long as they run on a Mac.
But as you say, the test version is unsuitable for even small-scale projects. That may explain why so few are using it.

Interesting -- thanks for the lead. I work on OS X (Mac) and Android (mobile), so it's exciting to see an outliner being developed for both platforms (there are only a couple others as far as I know, such as NoteCase Pro and now OneNote).
Let's hope development continues and a true trial version is released. (I did get hold of the Android demo...)

I used to be a great fan of Ariadne when Mike was developing it. The program was lean and fast, and was one of the first to offer a comment capability with each note in the outline. Comment and notes windows opened separately and it was Ariadne which showed me what a great ability it is to have multiple windows open when writing.
Ariadne also offered the capability of having a table in the outline itself, similar to InfoSelect. I suspect some of Mike's ideas came from IS, but the execution was always better.
Ariadne used to have a browser built-in, and for a long time I did most of my web surfing and book marking within Ariadne. IS never had this capability which worked in a reasonable way, but Ariadne did.
I think the old Ariadne could have been marketed as a worthy successor to the moribund IS.
There was a time when Ariadne and ADM were my go-to programs. I loved both.
I would still use Ariadne but, admittedly, it has become dated.
When Yuriy acquired Ariadne I was hoepful. However, I have so far been disappointed, though I can see the program is beginning to look like Ariadne again.
However, I am not prepared to pay for what is not completed software, and which is more like an alpha than a beta release.
I think it's necessary for Yuriy to deconstruct Ariadne 4 and 5 (web browser not in 5), and recognize its uniqueness and capabilities, and building on what was there, create a quality program for 2014. I think it's possible, and I think he could do well with it - there is nothing quite like it.
If this were to happen I would gladly use Ariadne again.

I checked the Ariadne site now, and saw the latest release. I hadn't realized that was the one being talked about here.
A couple of observations, and please forgive me if I sound unduely negative:
In its read-only mode a person has no way to evaluate it properly.
It's therefore not fair to ask people to pay $19 to support further development if they are unable to test the result of developments to date. Yes, I understand the need for funds to develop the program, but...
Yuriy should provide a 30-day evaluation period.
The appearance of the program is rough, and lacking aesthetic appeal.
I can see parts of the old Ariadne there, but only in a rough form.
The program requires significant work. Again, I understand Yuriy needs for funding. However, given the circumstances, it'd be far better for him to ask for a $20 donation.
I want to see Yuriy succeed, but much more work is required before v 6 is ready for market as a beta.

Like many others, I have been looking for a powerful cross platform note-taking tool. I like to use only crossplatform tools to prepare for my eventual switch to Linux.
The function that I would need most however appears to still be missing--- a web-clipping tool that allows the user to copy portions or entire webpages into Ariadne along with a "Pasted from: http:www.blaablaa" annotation that explains the origins of the clipping.
I imagine there must be a good market for such a cross-platform tool. As far as I know, there is currently no such tool. The few contenders are not very capable: Keepnote (appears to be abandoned), Cherrytree (develops at a snail's pace), NoteCase Pro (seems to develop quickly but even after 5 years still lacks a webclipper which is odd in this day-and-age of the internet).
I was unable to find the developer's email address on the Ariadne website-- I'd hoped to send a few suggestions.
Overall, Ariadne looks really quite promising!

Have you tried Nixnote / Nevernote, the Linux - Open Source port of Evernote? I find it capable and believe it is under steady development. Its advantage here is that you can use the Evernote web clipper which syncs with the Evernote cloud and, through it, with all clients.

You might have a look at org-mode. It's an Emacs major mode and is the best note taking (among many other features) program I've found. Org-capture lets you take notes and send them to whichever file you designate all without losing your place. I use Org for all my writing and note taking. Org now comes built in with Emacs. Emacs is available for all major platforms, is free and org is under active development. Great stuff.

Hi. My name is Yuriy and I am a bit involved in Ariadne development, at the level of basic testing. The idea of web-clipping is not new, somehow
implementation was always complicated, will drop email to developers.. And the latest 6.11 version has some fixes and enabled trial.
PS. Emacs Rocks!
