Zettelkasten Software

I have downloaded Zettelkastenfrom http://zettelkasten.danielluedecke.de/

The program is simple - but not simplistic, and it looks quite elegant. I can see how it would emulate the analogue zettelkasten system. I will work with it for a while, and write about how it works out.

I have started a new thread to focus on the use of the software itself.

Thank you very much for the heads up!
Here is another one, but a bit pricey: http://www.verzetteln.de/synapsen/index_e.html

I will have a look at both of them.

Thanks so much for Synapsen link. I had not seen the program before, and eagerly downloaded it. Unfortunately I won't have a chance to do anything with it for a few days.

I also downloaded the PDF manual. Again, a very cursory overview. It seemed the program relies on user applied keywords, and there are other programs which permit that. I suspect I'm missing something. :)

Thanks again.

Daly,

how's your experience so far?

I'm really looking forward to this review series: "Baseline for Zettelkasten Software Reviews." This post is already very informative:

http://christiantietze.de/posts/2014/03/baseline-zettelkasten-software-reviews/

"I’m going to take a close look at applications to find out which are suitable to implement the Zettelkasten note archive. (...)

The current list of applications, in alphabetical order:
ConnectedText
Evernote (platform independent)
DEVONthink (Mac)
Notational Velocity and nvALT (Mac)
NVim (platform independent)
ResophNotes (Windows)
VoodooPad (Mac)
Zkn³ (platform independent)
and a paper-based Zettelkasten"

The introductory post is well written. Looking forward, also, to the rest.

I think Tinderbox should be on the list -- and will mention it to the author.

Here is another one that is actually called 'SlipBox', with Mac and iOS versions-

http://tabi-software.com/slipbox/

The Mac version is free, the iOS version is $10.

SlipBox for OS X is nice ... but there have been no updates since OS X 10.5 (about 4 or 5 years ago). It might be abandonware.

I just wanted to add another program I have found: http://www.litlink.ch/home/

It is freeware, under active development, and available with German, English and French GUI. Actually, it is much more than a 'Zettelkasten' and can get a bit komplex...

Peter.

I tried Litlink and can't say that I found it useful. It's rather clumsy to use. The complexity of the application's structure is thrown right at the user's face. Granted, I don't have much use for all the metadata the app provides. Maybe this alone is reason enough for some to use this application. It's centered upon working with literature but fails to recognize that knowledge consists of more than annotations.

Also, I'm not a fan of proprietary databases. It doesn't do any magic with the data, so why keep it locked away?

Hello,

Anybody tried zettels (zettels.info) ? It seems it follows the original zettelkasten principles pretty closely.

I know of it from a couple of years, but didn't make the jump because it's web only (it's responsive on mobile though).

Another possible Zettelkasten candidate: Notes Keeper (beta)

Notes keeper has tags and (interesting!) groups. I don't know about links between notes, though, or how the files are stored: is the database you have to create a silo?
