I was a from-the-beginning ardent user of Grandview, for just about anything. Consequently, I have a ton of GV files that I would really like to convert to something usable, like the Inspiration that I have used for years (in spite of its simplistic flaws). Unfortunately, GV file conversion solutions I have found all seem to assume that I still have a copy of Grandview, which I don’t. Is a GV copy available somewhere for W7 64 Enterprise ? Is there a way to convert the file to anything current without a copy of GV ?

If you are able to get a copy of GrandView, you might be able to run it using a free DOS emulator called vDos.
For information about vDos, check the posts by Jos Schaars, the program’s developer, in the following thread:
http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/t/439277/dos-printing-to-a-usb-printer
Note: My Norton Internet Security flagged the vDos executable (vdos.exe) as a virus (Suspicious.MH690.A) and quarantined it. I submitted a report to Symantec, and got the following confirmation that it was a false positive, i.e. that vdos.exe is safe: “Upon further analysis and investigation we have verified your submission and as such this detection will be removed from our products.”
Good luck :)

Years ago, I found a link to GV on a site of old, retired, obsolete, etc. software. I just Advanced Googled “GrandView + Outliner.” and went through maybe 4-5 pages of listings. One item suggested it had GV, but its Web-of-Trust listing was very red (bad). Perhaps a more extensive search would vield a legitimate listing.
If you find a copy, you can convert GV files to Inspiration files using a procedure I posted here years ago. It is not a bulk process, although if you can program, you might be able to create a routine that automatically runs through your GV files, converting one after another.
I don’t have Win7, but GV may be able to opened in it using the RUN command.
There sometimes are advantages in keeping old computers…just in case you need something from yesteryear. I still have my Win 3.1 laptop.)

I just found the GV => Inspiration procedure:
The best approach (so far) that I’ve found for converting GV files to Inspiration is:
In the GV file, switch to “Outline View” and turn both “Columns” and “Category Display” OFF.
Expand EVERYTHING, then highlight EVERYTHING.
Choose the labeling style “Outline/Labels/Get Style/Indentation w/no labels.”
Export the file to “PA -Paragraph” format. (File/Export/Paragraph)
Pick a file name and add the extension “.rtf” Note which folder the file is in.
Open the exported file in Inspiration. Inspiration will automatically convert the “.rtf” file to an Inspiration file.
To keep the GV file the way it was before you made these changes, do not close the file using the GrandView “Quit.” Instead, with the GrandView window displayed, close it in Windows using one of the following:
Press the combination ALT-SPACEBAR, then choose CLOSE (works in XP, may work in others)
OR
Open the Windows Task Manager, choose GrandView and choose “End Task.”
FOR SAFETY, do not delete your GrandView file. The conversion might have errors or might not have copied everything.
The one possible difficulty may be the limited size of each Inspiration note. I don’t know what might happen if the conversion process encounters one that is too long.

Registration is required.
