We (me?) hijacked the thread on the perfect outliner to discuss getting notes out from Evernote.
So, let’s start a new thread.
I remembered that Rightnote has an import/sync option for Evernote notes. At least in the Pro and the Trial edition. So I installed the Trial for Rightnote 3.0.5.2 and connected to my Evernote account from withing RN (using the Evernote Manager in the “Tools” menu). Connecting is easy. Importing through “Evernote Sync All” (after selecting which notebooks to import) is easy, too.
And, when importing works, it is fine: All the contents and formattings from EN notes are stored in a Rightnote file (one per Evernote notebook). So you get a local backup of your Evernote data and can start manipulating the notes in the hierarchical tree in EN.
However, there is a problem connecting to the Evernote website. Sometimes it works, however, connections abort and I get an EOleException. Hope that is a temporary problem. Because getting the notes for my next 2 projects from Evernote to Rightnote would be a great help. So I’d gladly pay the upgrade fee (I have a licence for RN 2.x).
I keep trying. And will keep you informed.
What I am still looking for is a way to represent the Evernote notes visually. Something like Bubble Browser (but for Windows).

So: Rightnote Pro (and Trial) is able to import Evernote notes. The trouble I had with several aborted imports were due to something Rightnote was not prepared for: I had an umlaut (Ü) in a notebook name in Evernote. So Rightnote aborted (without telling me why). After the other notebooks had been imported without problems, I suspected the notebook name to be the reason, renamed the notebook, change the import settings in Rightnote and everything went smoothly.
So, I’ll gladly spend $30 for the upgrade.
And I am still on the lookout for a visual representation of my Evernote notes.

BitQwik has a tag cloud but is primarily not a visual browser—though the search features might be interesting ( http://bitqwik.com )

Another possibility is Mindomo ( http://mindomo.com )—an Adobe Air app (cross-platform) that also is web-based. There is some integration with Evernote, though it is limited to bookmarks stored in Evernote, which is a curious shortcoming.

Thanks Paul.
What I found out so far:
- there is Medley, but that only displays meta data on Evernote usage, etc. - EN notes are not touched
- there is the possibility to copy EN notes URLs and paste them into Mindmanager, Xmind and Scapple (I guess there are other mind- and concept-mapping tools that allow that, too). So far that seems to require a lot of manual work (I guess I should take a look at AutoHotKey to see if one could automate that)
- myThings for Mindmanager imports EN notes (and Outlook items BTW) into Mindmanager
Provided, I don’t find a better solution, I will try to see, if the Scapple/Evernote combo is suitable for a larger number of EN notes.
