Craig Scott of toketaWare—author of the excellent iThoughtsHD app on IOS—has released iThoughtsX for Mac. A very nice port of iThoughts to the desktop. If Craig’s dedication to continuous improvement on the IOS side is an indicator here, then I would expect iThoughtsX will also be improving quite a bit. One area that needs work is export to formats that can be imported to other mapping and outlining apps. I’m sure that there will be development on that front soon.

iThoughts on the iPad is a great app and many say it is the best mind mapper. Plus, Craig Scott is very responsive via email and seems to be a developer interested in continuous improvement. I cannot say enough good about him and iThoughts and am glad I have it on my iPad, at least.

A nice-looking, relatively simple piece of software - and good to have a desktop programme to sync with the iOS app. Re export formats, the biggest need is OPML, in my view.

Some remarks:
1. I can’t import opml files, they are greyed out.
2. There are no notes for items.

The past few days there was an update for iThoughtsX—I don’t recall if opening OPML worked before the update, but it does today ;-)
(BTW, it’s File > Open, there is no File > Import yet.)
Notes for items use the same panel that iThoughtsHD uses—grab the handle just under the toolbar, drag it down, select a node, and enter your note at the top of the window in the notes panel.
