Barebones software has released version 4.0 of their “digital junk drawer” software for Mac OSX. After the demise of Apple’s MobileMe the software lost its syncing capability. Syncing between Macs is back in version 4.0, but Yojimbo doesn’t use iCloud. According to the developer they had to go to a 3rd party service to ensure reliable syncing. The service is provided by Wasabi World Wide Heavy Industries. The first 30 days are free and the users bill be charged $2.99 each month thereafter.
I upgraded and set up a syncing account. The service quickly synchronized about 1000 items on my iMac and Macbook Air. I detected no glitches. The service is very unobtrusive, operating in the background. I’ll see if I continue to like it after 30 days.
Other than the syncing there isn’t much reason to upgrade to Yojimbo version 4.0. Retina display support and full screen mode are added, but that’s about it.
