I’m not familiar with Ulysses, so I don’t know how it compares with WriteMonkey, but on the WM forum some Ulysses users said they were missing WM on Mac, so I’m hoping that v. 3 will be a best of both worlds for both Windows and Mac users.

Damn that looks good. Hopefully it really is released before the end of the year.

Wait, where is there reference to a Mac version?
I have a soft spot in my heart for Writemonkey, and would love to use it on Mac even though there are similar tools now (Ulysses, Lightpaper).

All of the currently available screenshots of v3 appear to be running on a Mac.

The developer mentioned it on the WM forum. Here is the quote:
“The reason there has been no update for a while is that I am working on a new version that will be a complete rewrite. There are many reasons for that but the most important one is making wm also available on OSX and Linux. There is no public beta yet, but I hope to make it available by the end of the year. The new wm will target the same market (text based distraction free writing) but it will be different - I’ll take the best parts from wm2 and add some new, modern and in my opinion exiting tools for writers. (...) That said, I still intend to support wm2 in the form of bug fixes and new plugins.”
