Searching for software that associates different text with different layers, for ease in editing or formating only that layer.

I’m trying to find an outline software that allows you to layer the text, similar to layering in AutoCAD. Then if I want to delete a layer of text, or change its color, I can do that without affecting the rest of the outline. Any ideas?
