... and as a final sign-off this morning (sorry, been proofreading for about 50 hours solid, and have gone totally manic), can I bring to your attention Office Timeline, a PowerPoint add-on that allows you to create very elegant-looking timelines within PowerPoint. There's a free version that's already very nice to use (or you can buy the Pro version for a very modest USD 20). Again, not strictly speaking anything to do with outlining (although deffo relevant to information management!).
