Micro Logic: Hands in Your Pockets

Micro Logic seems to be determined to drive people away from InfoSelect.
The latest is a charge for providing support, according to this excerpt from the IS Yahoo group:
“I just tried to send a message to Miclog asking for an answer to my date
format question, only to find out that there would be a $$ charge
because I use version 7. Sure, I’ll pay for a simple tech question ....
as my mother used to say ... when pigs fly.”
Now I know that some companies—but far from all—have such charges, I wonder about the advisability of such a charge for a company that already has a pretty spotty rep for customer service. Some people rave about the response they get from Yuri, but even on the company-connected Yahoo group there’s posts complaining about little or no response.
The person quoted above shouldn’t, IMHO, be penalized for not upgrading to version 8, if for no other reason than some IS users have experienced new versions bringing on new features while old features still do not work. And he can’t be blamed for being ticked at Micro Logic for putting their hands in his pockets in search of more money for supporting an already over-priced product.
An example of the latter is the Transporter, which IS users have found still does not work always the way it should. I have experienced this, and web collection is such a part of what I do that that would be the deal breaker for me right there.
The core functionality (to me that translates into what actually works the way a reasonable person might expect it to) of IS can be found in Zoot and Ariadne (a program that has some IS-like features). ADM (even in its current slump of nondevelopment), InfoHandler, MyInfo, and UltraRecall all do as well or better than IS on equivalent features, with the non-IS products named not having a schedule section per se).
A recent post on the Yahoo group indicated that Jim Lewis is apparently our of Micro Logic. Does anyone have any information about that?

Daly said that IR is now charging for support on non-current versions (e.g., Ver 7).
The question is, did IR make any promises regarding support whan one purchased or upgraded to version 7? If so, did it restrict free support to current versions only? If not, then Daly may have legal recourse IF he has a copy of the support statement.
