As a long-time and happy Ecco Pro user (going back to the first version in 1993), I do have to admit that I still get a bit of CRIMP every now and then. Recently, I was looking for a program that was either USB portable, or U3 compatible, for task management. In my searching through many, many programs, I remembered one that I believe mentioned it could run as a USB program, but not in trial mode. Unfortunatley, I cannot remember which program that was, nor can I find it through searches. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,

While it may not do the trick for you, EssentialPIM has a USB version. There are several articles online that list lots of USB-compatible programs -- you might discover what you are looking for via those articles.

Hi Tom,
I am familiar with EPIM, but that was not the program that I was thinking about. I want to say that it was Myinfotogo or do-Organizer, but I cannot find FAQs on either site where I thought they said their trial version would not run on a USB drive, only the registered version. Unfortunately, I looked at too many products on too many machines on different days, so I am not able to put my finger on the web page that I am trying to remember. I have searched the posting here, but to no avail. I figured somebody else with a bad case of CRIMP mihgt have also come across the page.

Mystery Solved! The program that I was searching for was MyInfo. I must have looked at this web site a dozen times to find this information that I saw last week:
=====
Does MyInfo work on USB drive or USB stick?
The registered version of MyInfo works on portable devices such as USB drives. Currently, there is a small limitation in this funcionality, because MyInfo options are stored on the host computer. However, the registered version of MyInfo does not require installation in order to run on the host PC. It runs from the USB stick.
Trial versions of MyInfo do not work on portable devices.

UltraRecall also works on an USB key.
I think that the program mentioned here was WhizFolders though, as far as I remember, how this is done is something that the developer must confide to you as the information is not publicly available for licensing reasons.
Other programs mentioned here in the past that can be installed to a USB key are Brainstorm and Goal Enforcer. Last but not least, I read a message by Tom Davis that Zoot can run from a USB key as well.

I am considering Ultra Recall as well, but I thought I would first start with MyInfo. The feature that I am currently looking for is user-definable columns for tasks. Ecco does this quite well, and I plan to continue using Ecco. I do, however, need a portable task manager and the four up for consideration are MyInfo, do-Organizer, Zoot and UR.
MyInfo's web site is a bit confusing because the FAQ I quoted above talks about USB, but a forum posting from the author indicates that it is a feature to be implemented in the next release. Is anybody successfully using MyInfo on a USB, expecially on machines without Admin. rights?
Thanks,

There is a newer Ecco Yahoo Group forum (ecco_pro rather than eccopro), and someone there has put together a way to run Ecco from a USB drive. I didn't follow the discussion closely, but that may be worth looking into if you'd prefer to stick with Ecco.

I am familiar with the Ecco installation on the USB drive, but, IIRC, this is predicated on the host machine granting Admin. rights. This is fine on my home and work machines, but I am not certain about if I travel and use another machine. I do not want to assume that I will have these rights.

With eccoext, you can run ecco on USB even if you have no admin rights. please check it in yahoo ecco_pro groups.
