One of the delights of life is serendipity! Yesterday I published a rather somber reflection on my life and this time of year on my blog [ http://www.exuberanteclectic.com/2011/12/somber-thoughts-christmas-reflections.html ] Yes, I know it is off-topic, but I mention it here to illustrate the serendipity! Serendipity sometimes comes as an unexpected delight - sometimes at the least likely of times, and that was what happened yesterday when…
After publishing the blog I perused my in-box, and find, after almost a year, some correspondence on the Ariadne Yahoo Group. Serendipity because Ariadne, once one of my favourite programs, appeared lost, and now, is back and still showing signs of life. Here’s url for Ariadne Yahoo group: http://tech.groups.yahoo.com/group/ariadneorga/?yguid=263610495
Ariadne is a fast, simple, powerful program which years ago was once mentioned by some of us in the same breath as ADM as the potential killer app in information management. ADM vanished (and after having been so often sarcastic & hurt at the disappearance of the developers, I seek their forgiveness and wish them well, and would be relieved just to know they were ok).
In short, Yuriy, the developer/owner of Ariadne, has also been developing a new kind of file management program. He states some of the benefits of that program will be added to Ariadne in further development of that program.
I am hoping - to draw from the myth about Ariadne - that she has through the last few years been faithfully trailing behind her that magic thread so that she and we might find her way back again, bringing us with with her, to a new and better place.
Back in the day, I found Ariadne was the easiest and fastest way to track my web sites (built-in browser). Ariadne had similar features to InfoSelect, but executed with greater competence. No program made it easier than Ariadne to open multiple comments and writing pages at the same time. Michael was, as far as I recall, the first creator of Ariadne, and was quite responsive.
Anyhow, I invite people to download the current version of Ariadne here http://www.prokarpaty.net/ariadne/ . Ariadne shows its age, but it also shows, I maintain, its potential.
Yuriy has released a new file manager program called Data Rotunda, which can be found here: http://www.prokarpaty.net/dr/ I have not yet done anything with this program except to download it.
Anyhow, I wish Yuriy success in his work with Data Rotunda and Ariadne.
And because of my own bias and affection for Ariadne, I hope Yuriy is able to move it ahead quickly. The one time I was truly able to work efficiently with one program, it was with Ariadne.
