Biblioscape 9 - the end of searching ?

The new Biblioscape 9 is available.

I think it could replace many programs which are discussed here and it could stop my endless search.
I have tried software over years and it was frustrating.
I was never satisfied with all the products.
There were only some exceptions: Devonthink, Scrivener, Biblioscape
Devonthink is great, but it has also weak points.
Now I have tried Biblioscape 9 , and surprise surprise .... yes it could be the solution.

What do you think about the new Biblioscape 9 ?

Well, I wasn't impressed. I moved from EndNote to IdeaMason to Biblioscape 8, and was very happy with the performance and features in that version. However, in beta-testing (and running the final candidate of) Biblioscape 9, I found the program buggy, the UI sluggish, and the feature-set limited. Last month, I moved to Citavi 3 and haven't looked back. If you like Biblioscape, you'll love Citavi. It is a very professional and fully-featured program for managing your PDFs, images, and other reference resources. The development team is also much more responsive than Biblioscape's developer -- I typically receive comprehensive replies the same day via email or on their forum.

Haim.

Maybe I am missing the point. How does Iqtell compare to Biblioscape?

I like to get some information about new innovative products, but something should be respected:

This message is for Haim at IQTELL:

Please no promotion here.
OutlinerSoftware-Forum was initiated only for users to discuss their own experiences with different kind of information management software....
This Forum is not a marketing platform for companies !!!
Thanks

Software vendors who try to (ab)use this forum as a marketing platform should realise that they are shooting themselves in the foot whenever they attempt to push their own software here. I don't have a problem with new product or version announcements or responses to user query, however any overt or covert attempt to sell is a complete turn-off for me and I find such marketing approaches amateurish and would never act on them.

Hi,

I am still relatively new here, but perhaps the main mistake was to hijack another thread, and compare the product to that one? For example, the tone "Before you'll reach your conclusion..." implies a direct comparison with the original product (Biblioscape 9) might find flaws.

It might have been better if they had made a new thead, stating something like "Hi, we have a new app called IQTELL that is relevant for outlining and data collection purposes. We are conducting a closed beta, and would like feedback on the product. Please feel free to email us if you would like to participate. Looking forward to your opinions."

That sounds more similar in tone to the announcements of other software/updates like ConnectedText.

Best, /Pavi

Hello,

Let me explain why I've posted here in the first place, I haven't bumped into the outlinersoftware forum by accident...
This forum was recommended by two forum users that participated in our early beta user group sessions. They mentioned that there are a lot of people here that would love to find out about IQTELL and participate in our beta.
Second, IQTELL is a great research tool among other things, that's why I've posted on this thread. I haven't said anything about biblioscape nor compared it to our app...just shared an option.
Hope you understand that I had no intention to offend anyone or invade the privacy of the forum's users in my post.
Thanks for your explanation Pavi.
Regards,
Haim

I agree, and in all fairness, I must add that I found this in the outlinersoftware.com RSS feed, posted 26 October:

"Invites to a private beta - Haim At IQTELL

I'm looking to hand out invites to IQTELL's private beta.

IQTELL is a new "still under the radar" productivity app that organizes all your tasks, email accounts, projects, documents, notes, bookmarks and searches under one roof that gives you the ability to customize it according to your needs. We're GTD enabled and are in the process of integrating various productivity techniques work flows into the app.

The app is currently a web app, but we will be releasing in a couple of weeks and Android app (iPhone users will have to wait a bit longer and we have also a desktop client in our near future). We'd love to receive your input, if you're interested go to - http://iqtell.com/&quot

I'm not sure whether this was cut by our moderator, or simply not appeared in the website due to some technicality (I assume the latter, or else it would not be in the RSS feed either, would it?)

Alexander,

Thanks for the clarification...I've posted this thread prior, but for some reason it disappeared.
Hope to see you on the app,
Haim

After your post I tried to evaluate Citavi, but there is one thing I don't understand there: the workflow.
As I see, all references related to my current writing should appear in a separate "project". Then all the project references are exported as bibliography.
Suppose I'm starting a new project. Naturally, I have many overlapping references. Should I somehow export them from my previous project and insert into the new one??
For me, this philosophy doesn't look natural. Biblioscape & EndNote simply insert the references you actually cited in your writing as bibliography, which is good, since you
1) can keep all your references for all your works in the same place; 2) don't have to check manually that all the references are actually cited.

P.S. For me, Biblioscape 9 looks as a way to go (Biblioscape 8 had no unicode support, and 9 beta was truly buggy); the only thing which I don't like at all is their licensing approach.
Glen Coulthard 11/17/2011 3:26 pm
I use Citavi as a bibliograhic referencing tool, not a writing tool. Therefore, in this workflow approach, I use it similar to how I used to work with Biblioscape and EndNote. I collect my references and extract knowledge items and notes within a single Citavi project. However, when I write, I use Word (or, more recently, Scrivener) to insert citations from Citavi. I am not creating a separate Citavi project for each writing project. The only difficulty right now is that I have to save my Word or Scrivener projects as RTF files and then run them through the Citavi Publication Formatter to have the citation codes and bibliography generated/compiled using APA 6 format. Not a big deal, but EndNote is much smoother for the actual writing/generation part.

@Glen which version of Ideamason did you use?
Daly de Gagne 2/3/2018 1:49 am
Glen, I bought Citavia, and am gradually starting to use it. I like it. However, realized today, it might be helpful if I could find other users at the University of Manitoba.

Last time (a few years ago) I tried these apps, Qiqqa was much more robust than Biblioscape and Citavi. I specially loved its information management system (similar to Nvivo and Atlas) and its integration with Bibtex.

Have you guys tried Qiqqa? How does it compare with Bibloscape?

I am not much into the windows system anymore. But, I would love to see the progress made on these apps.
