Inspiration IS a single-pane outliner. There is no left-pane navigation tree. You can create new outline items at different levels and have multiple paragraphs in each. The first paragraph of an outline item is automatically in BOLD print. (You can “un-bold” it.”). Any following paragraphs are in plain text.
Pressing ESC puts you in outline mode. Pressing the left arrow puts you in edit mode at the beginning of an item. Pressing the right arrow key puts you in edit mode at the end of the item.
The biggest “pain” is that one sometimes has to scroll up or down to see something that one would have thought would be automatically scrolled to.
I have also used it to create diagrams and flow charts for instructional purposes. There is linkage between the diagramming and outlining, but it cannot be perfect as diagrams can include non-hierarchical elements.
