An update to Inspiration is available: version 9.0.3 (English only). You'll have to hunt for it on Inspiration's Web site. I finally found it, but I don't remember where.

Cassius,

How is your experience with Inspiration? I trialled it several years ago but as far as I can remember I thought it was quite clunky... Can you do some serious outlining with it, or is just for kids (who they seem to be marketing it for)? I'm interested in the in-line note displaying feature...

I could only find this update, for the US version: http://www.inspiration.com/Help-Center/Inspiration#updater

1. I'm not sure what you mean by in-line note. Do you mean multiple paragraphs in one outline item?
2. I currently use Inspiration mainly for record keeping. It is a bit clunky, but I've gotten used to it. The biggest difficulty is that it does some things differently from the "usual way," but they are easy to learn and become comfortable with.

No, sorry. I mean the ability to add text directly under or besides an item in the outlining hierarchy, i.e. to use it as a single-pane outliner. I meant it in the sense as discussed on this thread:

That's the only one I know of. You can try emailing customerservice@inspiration.com to learn if there are updates in any other language.

==========
cassius says:

Inspiration IS a single-pane outliner. There is no left-pane navigation tree. You can create new outline items at different levels and have multiple paragraphs in each. The first paragraph of an outline item is automatically in BOLD print. (You can "un-bold" it."). Any following paragraphs are in plain text.

Pressing ESC puts you in outline mode. Pressing the left arrow puts you in edit mode at the beginning of an item. Pressing the right arrow key puts you in edit mode at the end of the item.

The biggest "pain" is that one sometimes has to scroll up or down to see something that one would have thought would be automatically scrolled to.

I have also used it to create diagrams and flow charts for instructional purposes. There is linkage between the diagramming and outlining, but it cannot be perfect as diagrams can include non-hierarchical elements.
