I have added all contacts who have sent me an email so far to a circle in Google+ - check your Gmail inboxes.
It is a bit strange some people can then open a Google+ account and some can't.Google is sometimes closing the doors and opens it at will. Please note that Goolge+ is in beta testing stage and that changes can occur.
An update will follow soon.
All the best,
Dominik

Google+ is open now for everybody with a Google Account (no invite necessary anymore):

I am looking forward seeing you there!

Hi Dominik
Did you like Google+? I feel a little bit lost there. Perhaps it is the influence of Facebook which seems neat for me. I am feeling the same I felt when I tried Google Wave.

Hi Eduardo,
I can't agree more! I liked Google Wave but after several weeks I asked myself:"and now, what should I do?" . It could be very similar with Google+.

Dominik, thanks for the invitation :-) Interestingly, open access seems to have been delayed, so it came in handy.
I am now in Google+ and have connected with the Outliner people I found through the Google Wave conversations.
FYI my Google profile is adeliyannis If you see another one with my name you may ignore it.

Hi Alexander,
Google+ cannot find an "adeliyannis" to add to my circles - it did find you using your whole name.
I will try to send the rest of my comments via Google+ and am curious to see what (if anything) happens!
regards, Susanne

You can find my profile easily via this link: http://gplus.to/adeliyannis
(FYI gplus.to is a third party service, to make it easier to link to profiles avoiding the multitude of numbers)
I copy below a post I made on Susanne's profile, as this is can only be seen by those involved in the specific conversation.
Re finding other people, as long as they are in your Gmail contact list they should be available as suggestions in Google+ circles. If you are in Facebook, here's how to get your FB contacts into Gmail http://lifehacker.com/5817003/import-facebook-friends-to-google%252B-by-going-through-yahoo-first
Gmail can also import any .csv list of emails.
Google+ itself should become more prominent as it is integrated with other Google services:

Quick update:
while I cannot get the Facebook import to work (has facebook blocked this too?) I have found another way to find people that share interests:
in your search bar, enter "site:plus.google.com xxx" where xxx is one or more words specifying what you are looking for, f.ex. I used "psychology" or "cognitive" and instantly found some interesting posts, from there you dan go to the author etc.

FYI: Google+ is being changed this week based on user feedback
http://www.geek.com/articles/geek-pick/google-is-being-tweaked-this-week-based-on-user-feedback-20110711/
Of interest to this group, among others, may be the following enhancements:
- Ability to share Google Docs and Calendar with circles
- Revamp Google Reader to make sharing easier
- File-sharing integration
- Nested comments
- Addition of hashtags to aid searching
