UltraRecall Warning Issued to GTD and Other Groups

Following concerns with UR’s apparent inability to reliably copy/link web data, I have sent the following waning to the 5,100 member Getting Things Done Group on Yahoo, and urged people to pass the warning on to other groups: I have wasted too much time this weekend trying to do necessary projects to have much tolerance with this situation, so please forgive my general bitchiness. (My overall willingness to put up with glitches, delays, and the unexpected took a real solid hit with the ADM fiasco and, frankly, with Arne following the way of Eric in non-communication was the last straw. Irrational as it may be, it is affecting the way I feel and/or relate to just about every other developer out there—while not fair to guys like Neville and Manfred and Tom, with Surfulater, MDE InfoHhandler, and Zoot respectively, I at least have an idea who they are, which is more than I have for the collective Ks behind Kinook.)

WARNING TO THE GTD GROUP RE ULTRARECALL

I discovered yesterday and confirmed today that UltraRecall’s Launchy feature for capturing web pages and storing them in Ultra Recall, or for linking to web pages, no longer seems to be working.

I have updated both Firefox and UltraRecall to latest versions, and the problem persists.

The problem also exists with Explorer 6 as the browsers.

I then removed UltraRecall from my system, and then reinstalled it.

The problem persisted. A perusal of messages on the UR forum and at outlinersoftware.com indicates that others have had similar kinds of problems.

Therefore, I am taking the unusual step of warning any group members who use UR, whether for GTD or other purposes, to be aware that the program is not reliable at this point when it comes to capturing or linking to web data. I was not even able to get UR to copy web data that appeared in its own built-in browser.

Further, I would caution people to be very sure that any other functions in UR on which they depend be working properly.

I would appreciate it if members could share this warning with any other groups to which they belong, and whose members could be hurt by the current glitches in UR.

UR’s developer is reputable, and I am sure will be have this problem resolved very quickly.
