Rob Oakes recently revived his impressive “Lyx-Outliner” project, which is planned as a an add-on to the Lyx Document Processor (which I use some of the time). An update and some screenshots can be found here:

Today on his blog he put out a request for input from potential users regarding whether note-taking should be integrated into the outliner.

I thought some of you might be interested in sending him your thoughts, as this outliner appears to have the potential to grow into a nice tool.

Thank you very much, Lucas. Rob Oakes’s outliner project looks very hopeful, especially as he is modelling it on some of Scrivener’s features. I notice that Alex has already added some comments to the website. Rob’s blog is also filled with an eclectic and thought-provoking mix of topics in addition to notes on the LyX-Outline project. Today’s entry is a follow-up to some of the comments he has received:

I don’t (yet) use LyX, so my interest is theoretical, but I’ll be following developments carefully.

Is this project still under way? Or has it come to a halt?

Carrot, I saw your post in Rob Oakes’ blog http://blog.oak-tree.us/index.php/2010/05/24/lyx-outline02 so I guess you’ve seen that the latest news on the LyX outliner are from October 2010 http://blog.oak-tree.us/index.php/tag/lyx-outline Oakes is obviously a prolific and talented fellow but probably with too much going on in his multiple interests. I wouldn’t hold my breath for progress in the LyX outliner.
However, in the meantime he’s released an alpha version of a Word (.docx) to LyX converter which may interest LyX/Linux users, so I’m posting it here for reference http://blog.oak-tree.us/index.php/tag/lyx-outline
