I am looking for a software that can create timelines with any references: development of a topic, of a document or special issue, evolution of a special topic etc.
'TimelineMaker' seems to be a gem (http://www.timelinemaker.com/index.php however, their last update was in 2008, and it is very expensive. So I would like to ask the community for recommendations.

Perhaps it is not what you are looking for but ConnectedText supports Ploticus that can generate several types of timelines. You can check what Ploticus can do here: http://ploticus.sourceforge.net/gallery/gall.hbars.html#timeline

You can use Ploticus as standalone program as well.

thanks for your information. However, I decided to take Timeline Maker. It's capabilities and the looks of the results are really great!
