Is EverNote still the best for tagged note taking

After having been away from outliners for a while, I now have a need for a note taker that in a seamless way allows me to track my job search, keeping track of new opportunities and my contacts with the various companies. The need is to track opportunities - both advertised and leads - and my activity with each. I am considering using EverNote, which I think could do the trick through tagging. I’ve also considered a site called jibberjobber.com, but it’s a bit cumbersome, as it is webbased. I’ve also considered an actual crm app such as salesforce, but that is also webbased, so it has a little the same problem as jibberjobber.
Do any of you have ideas for software that would be particularly well suited for this task?

I’ve seen tags in Personal Brain, with a simple query being performed by just clicking on the tag label in a list.
However its data manipulation and publishing capabilities are relatively basic.
There’s also Brilliant Database (BDB) which allows for very specific queries and a lot of idiosyncrasy in how you store
and format data, however it requires an investment of time to learn and there is no schematic (over)view of records.
Personally I use BDB for anything important (including tasks, schedules and job-tracking) due to its versatility, however
I wish it had an intuitive node-based UI similar to Personal Brain…

The sort of scenario you’re describing is really what Ecco or InfoQube was designed for. (org-mode could handle it too.) I’d recommend Ecco for this.

I would give EN a try.
For me, the key advantage of EN for the type of notes you’re describing is the speed of data entry as compared to the other options suggested (Ecco, InfoQ, Personal Brain).
If I get a phone call from an important contact, I don’t want to take the time to navigate to the right database or the right node of my outline, then fill out a bunch of forms, before I can start typing what is being said. I want to hit a hot-key and start typing, which is what i can do with EN.— And unlike some other approaches that provide an “inbox” so you can “file later”, with En you really never have to take the time to file anything—you add a tag or two and you’re done.
I use it for things similar to what you’re describing—notes from meetings and calls and research, all relating to a discrete set of contacts and topics, tagged with those contact and topic names. It works great fror me.

Try CintaNotes, currently free, pro version in the pipeline. Very elegant tag-based solution for managing text notes. Rather like the old EverNote.
Carefully thought out. Extremely seamless user experience. Worth looking at if just to see the innovative design touches.
And very keen developer, busy forum.
I use it as my short-term memory/gtd in-box. Also great for brainstorming. After a week or so, the note gets dumped or sent to Zoot.
