Amode v1 was a pretty great product and I will download the trial of v2. But I just can't imagine paying that $200.

I believe the upgrade is $112

After looking over the features on Amode's web site, I'd have to say it looks like it's worth the money if you need those features that it provides. The SMS features alone are something you won't find in many other products, if any. Plus, the integration of mind mapping features, project management features, SMS, and others seem to make this a worth while product even at the higher cost if you need or can take advantage of those features. I can see the reason for it's higher price tag, and how it appeals to those who need the features it offers, and are willing to spend a little more to get those features in one package.

I remember taking a peek when v1 was released and thinking it tickled the CRIMP zone in my brain. However, I found the $200 price tag to be too steep for me, and I have a personal rule that I never tease myself with a peek at an application that costs more than I am willing to fork over. It keeps my impulsive nature somewhat in check....

It was previously featured on Bits Du Jour for $100: http://www.bitsdujour.com/software/mindsystems-amode/

I must say that if the new v2 came back on Bits for $100, I would likely take it for a spin and potential purchase....

I've tried both V1 & V2. Its got some great functionality - but one very odd characteristic - it feels like its been built using out-of-date dev tools - or the designers are from another planent. For one thing - in Notes, there is no right click menu at all. I can't think of any other program that doesn't have the habitually used right click menu - especially in Notes.

Another thing is there's no drag and drop. You have to go through multiple steps to link/attach anything.

Another is the very tortuous way of building filters. They've got all the parts there to create sophisticated filters, but its a bit like say when you want to rent an apartment for a while, instead of signing a contract and getting the keys, the landlord also gives you a bunch of bricks and mortar and a building plan. Compared with Zoot or Ultrarecall in this regard - UGH!

Its got great potential but for now - for anyone who's used to more facile user interfaces - its a no.

I think I was a little hard on Amode in my last post. In particular the fact that the developers are humans and not from another planet - in fact they are very communicative and helpful.

I guess I was having a hard week, and fed up with never being able to find a "PIM" that does everything totally right!

So I apologize for this - and take my previous comments accordingly - i.e. from someone having a hard week - rather than totally objective !

Well they are in Australia. Down here it is autumn already!

Jack ;-)

I just wanted to clarify that Amode V2 now has drag and drop of multiple file(s) to any topic or ThoughtPad shape. URLs from your web browser can also be dragged in the same way.

Right click is in fact featured heavily all throughout the application, espcially in sections like ThoguhtPad. It is not there in Notes because the controls are specific to the type of notes panel control we use. That particular aspect may not suit everyone/or every purpose but it does others, its just a particular model used. It is very important to remember that Amode is not really built as a Outliner, it is about end to end information management and project management which means analyzing it purely in the context of a Outliner may mean some things don't match expectations.

Thanks,

Alex
