Phase II of the beta release of Zoot 6.0 is now available at

http://www.zootsoftware.com/Downloads/z6.htm

From Tom Davis:

You'll finally be able to use Z6 for "real work" then.

Currently missing from the beta:

* Printing
* Spell Checking
* Google Calendar Sync
* Blog Accounts (ability to post updates to Blogger and WordPress right out
of Zoot)

I may have missed some other minor items, but those are the big ones. I'll
get them in as time permits.

Thanks, Steve. I'll be interested to see how its new outlining feature works. I tried it out in an early beta, but I don't think it was quite ready for use at that time.

Not sure I like the GTD focus of this version.

Maybe I'm just letting the icons confuse me, but creating a new folder just seems to be a task list...but then when I create a new column, it also doesn't automatically make a folder for it within the folder I've put that column in, which is one the things that initially got me excited about Zoot 5.

Huh. Perhaps I need to play with it more, but it feels more like a to-do list app than the free-form database of previous versions.

So, the outlining functionality in Zoot 6--where is it applied and how do you access it?

Well, truthfully, I'm still trying to figure out the outlining in Z6. There is a special folder for outlines in each database -- so you can't just create an outline in any folder. That's not too confusing. But the actual outlining function feels very convoluted. I haven't read any instructions yet. Perhaps with a clear step by step guide it won't be too awkward. But right now, it's a little disappointing.

Have you figured out how to capture a web page? I have tried 2 things:
1. copy a page and manually paste it into a "text note."
2. create a "web link" item

Option 1 works OK, except it's manual, the formatting is not perfect, and for some reason there are lots of bizarre text symbols added into the text. And there is no storage of the source URL.
Option 2 seems to just pull up a web browser and you have to browse to a web page, and it's not clear the page is ever actually saved - it's just like using a web browser where nothing is captured.

Am I missing an option? I seem to remember that in Zoot 5 this was a strength - you could click the "Zooter" and pull a page right into Zoot (without formatting). I don't see that.

Dan, when the web page is active, left click the Zooter and choose Web. Works for me (about the only thing I have managed up to now ....)

Thanks Graham. That works perfectly. Quite impressive, really -- all formatting is retained, I guess because he's using the IE plugin.
