Hi,
anyone any experiences with Recordskeeper? Never heard of it so far. The user interface looks somewhat unconventional but interesting anyway. Considering the download size of 88 MB it should really have some features.

Hi, achim. I have been using the RecordsKeeper for several weeks now and I think it is an extremely useful tool. As you say, the interface is differerent. It is not flashy like some programs but it is extremely flexible. It is a little difficult to get used to at first because it is so flexible, but once you understand how it works, you really can save records of just about anything. I decided I wanted to catalog where all my electrical circuits in the house went, what lights and receptacles and applicances were on each circuit etc. and I was able to do this so easily with this program. So now rather than just have the circuits identified on my electrical panel, I keep a report by the panel that now tells me every single thing in my home that is controlled by each circuit. I plan to use it for other things also.

Hi Roberta.
I find RecordsKeeper to be interesting, but I am a bit leery of purchasing it. First of all, the user interface is, well, pretty terrible. It looks like an example of how not to build a UI for a program. Too much scattered all over the page IMO. If it is really a great program I guess I could learn to live with it of course. Obviously it is a relational database program; do you know if it is MS Access-based? What type of files are your data saved in?
Also the reports look too plain. It doesn?t appear that you can build reports in any kind of table or grid format. All of the sample reports are simple listings of data. None of the samples look any different from the others. Is that truly the only report format offered?
Last, I notice that there is no Support page at their website, nor is there a forum. Have you ever needed to contact the developer for support? This appears to be the only program that they offer, so support shouldn?t be that much of a burden for them.
Thanks for any information!

Hi Jim. I at first found the screen a little confusing, but in fact you use very few of the options once you get started using it. There are a lot of buttons because you can customize everything, but I doubt that most people will want to do that, so they are seldom used.
I don’t know much about the database and the type of files it uses.
About the reports, yes, there is only one general format for reporting your general records, but that report uses different headers depending on the way you choose to label all the data fields you use for storing information. I found it did what I wanted for different types of records so I have no complaints about that.
I did have a couple of questions and I got replies very quickly via e-mail. I can’t remember how long it took, but I got answers to my questions. There were a couple of things I couldn’t understand at first, but when they explained what I had to do, it made sense and I was able to get things the way I wanted.
I am not sure if this will help you, but I find that I am using this software every day now and I love it. I open it in the morning and leave it open, and then I often use it to access programs that I run or web sites that I visit, especially when those web sites or programs require ID’s and passwords, because they are now at my fingertips in one program and I just copy and paste them from the RecordsKeeper - it works well. I can also store any other information that I might need for that web-site, such as questions and answers to renew a password, or the order ID in case I need support.
Anyway, I hope this helps. If you have any other questions, I am sure they can help you, but so can I as I use this product all the time.

Jim, After my last post I also thought I should mention that the help files are quite good. They are different because there is only one help page for each screen but most of them have good information but you have to take the time to read them. Roberta
