This is a question for Cassius. I am using Notemap and have not experienced the problem to which you refer. An long entry may appear NOT to contain all of the text, but I can see it if I click on the entry and scroll carefully down (I use the keyboard). Could you please let me know how I can duplicate your observation? I would certainly consider discontinuing using Notemap if I can replicate your situation on my machine.

I can replicate your success using the keyboard. (I'm not sure what you mean by "carefully." I find the only effective way to scroll is using the down arrow. Other than that, no additional carefulness is required.)

The feature is buggy, but it isn't critical, as Cassius suggested. If the keyboard is the only way to navigate when you have full-screen note, it figures those of us using the mouse to navigate wouldn't learn of your workaround.

But we'll see if Cassius agrees.

Yes, with a long note one must carefully scroll or do something else to see the entire note. [I no longer remember what the "else" might have been.]

HOWEVER, there is NO doubt that I lost about a page of typed text in NoteMap. It was not just hidden, it was lost. I tried everything I could think of to retrieve it, including saving the entire document and reopening it, all to no avail. The text was part of a long note.

That is why I discontinued its use. I would have loved to use it, despite the peek-a-boo problems, but the irretrievable loss of text was too much.

I never experienced this in GrandView or in Inspiration, although I admit that I haven't given Inspiration a thorough workout with long notes. (And Inspiration is not as "smooth" to use as NoteMap.)

I was able to replicate it using the mouse. Haven't tried with the keyboard.

It's an irritating bug and inexplicable considering how expensive the software is, but it never really effects me because I don't usually enter a lot of text in my outlines. The lack of ongoing development and support is more serious, IMO. I like NoteMap, but as far as I can tell, it isn't compatible with Vista, which means that I'll have to stop using it when I'm eventually forced to upgrade (right now I'm grimly hanging onto XP).

Hanging on to XP...YES. Too many programs have not been updated to Vista. I could use GrandView with Win 2000, but have many problems using it in XP, although some others seem to be able to use GV in XP with little trouble.

Wth respect to NoteMap, I was using it to write all of the book, not just an outline of it.

My son switched to a Mac a couple of years ago and just finished a book on video game production to be published in September. I'll try to remember to ask him what software he used in writing it.

I have NoteMap installed on my Vista system. Haven't seen any problems.

The folks at LexisNexis would be well to consider open sourcing it since they don't seem to care to enhance it and I suspect it is not a big seller.

I've used NoteMap for roughly three years now and I have never experienced any serious problems. Yes it may be old and outdated but so is my six year old F-150 pickup. NoteMap and my pickup are reliable and get me where I need to go. NoteMap even fires up on my Vista laptop.

The other problem with Notemap is the "send to Word" functionwhich is buggy (and reproducible). Save as RTF is safer.

For me, careful simply means avoiding a routine I am accustomed to using with other programs. Being "careless" means that instead of reading the entry I intended, I end up with the next or previous outline entry.
