Martin Pilkington of mCubed Software passed away mid-February. He was the developer of Coppice, a hypertext mind-mapping app for Mac.
Developer Steve Troughton-Smith wrote today on social media, “There are still a lot of details to work out, but one of the things @pilky entrusted to me is Coppice, his hypertext mind-mapping app, with the intention of releasing the source code (AppKit & Swift). Coppice was in the middle of a major refactor, so unfortunately that’s not as easy as flipping a switch — it will take time to clean it and its dependencies up into a buildable form, but I started on that in December and will work towards a public release. Purchases have been disabled in meantime. As part of that effort, I will be unwinding Coppice’s licensing/subscription code and migrating the app to the App Store to keep it available to new and existing users as the infrastructure it currently relies upon is wound down. I intend to keep the app compatible with macOS for the indefinite future, but it’s a pretty complex project with a codebase I am currently unfamiliar with, so I can’t promise future feature updates or anything from its previously-teased roadmap (iPad support, etc)”

That’s always terribly sad to hear, from anyone.
I looked at Coppice and found that it was a visionary project with potential but at the time I was looking for a solid (if boring but dependable) base for all of my notes. Good to hear that this Labour of love has a future, will follow its progress because on a per project base it may already be useful now.
Thanks for sharing

Ah, I remember Coppice! I was profoundly impressed by it when it first appeared, but didn’t go ahead and subscribe simply because it’s uniplatform (Mac only).
But what a great piece of software it is. I very much hope it continues to draw fans, and wish the new developer every success.
