What's up with Brainstorm

The website issue was probably temporary indeed. When I checked it it was fine. I had a short e-mail correspondence with David Tebbut and he says that the new owner has kept the existing web hosting and e-shop infrstructure, so no changes there.
David also told me that he and Marck are still backup to the new owner. If needed you can contact David directly using the e-mail on his personal website ( http://www.tebbo.com/ ). However, do note that this is a transitory period and the new owner will be taking over more and more as things move on.
That’s it for the moment; as a Brainstorm user myself I’m confident that eventually things will take their course (as everything else in the grand scheme of things as David says)

I just wanted to make this follow-up report. I had the chance today to chat with the new developer of Brainstorm. As Alexander has reported, he certainly is a Brainstorm enthusiast and I think he has some great ideas for further development.
If you are a Brainstorm fan, I’d suggest sending him an e-mail through the Brainstorm web site. He’ll respond and he’s looking for feedback from people who have experience with the program.
So, no fears. Brainstorm is alive and kicking!

I just updated Brainstorm from version 3.6.0. to the latest version (3.6.0.4) but the “About Brainstorm” details did not change. I presume the update “took”, but I’ve emailed the new owner. Has anyone else had this problem? I’d post on the BS forum but it looks pretty quiet these days.

I just installed the update and had the same result you did, Derek.
It is rather disappointing that virtually nothing is happening with Brainstorm. I had spoken with the new developer back in the spring, I believe, and had the impression he was planning to make some significant changes. At the time I suggested he tend to the web site and user forum, because seeing no activity gives the impression that the product is dead or dying. He seemed to agree with me, yet nothing has happened. I sincerely hope this isn’t another instance where someone well intentioned takes over development of an application then finds himself overwhelmed, only to allow the application to wither on the vine.

Thanks for confirming the unchanged version problem, Steve.
Good news though: I think the update has been made as there are indeed two new features, apparently introduced in versions 3.6 builds 3 & 4. The change log on the website (which I missed last night) mentions the following:
Add Open / verify option to force sanity checking on dubious brn files; and
Give the Find / Replace dialog box a caption.
At least this shows some activity, and I am rather relieved. The forum is another matter, however. It reminds me ominously of the Citation forum on askSam which languished for some years until it was put out of its misery. The subject of user forums and their costs and benefits really deserves another thread, though…
