David & Marck have just advised existing customers of the first update of Brainstorm for a couple of years. An official announcement will be made later in the month.
The improvements are mostly under the covers -

You may save the currently open models and windows as a project. The file suffix is .bwl - BrainStorm Window Layout.
The ‘drop zone’ for drag and drop operations has been expanded from the entry icon only, to the full entry width.
We’ve standardised on double click for promote and demote.
You can now mark six separate locations, giving you more flexibility over where you copy, throw and jump. If you want, you can create named ‘buckets’ or ‘bins’ by creating an entry and giving its first descendant (the dot icon) a numbered mark.
Split window has been jazzed up, so that you can make the current entry the heading of the new pane. We’ve renamed ‘Split window’ to ‘Break window’, to give you the mnemonic shortcuts Ctrl+K (to split) and Alt+K (to split and promote).
Models can be output as XML (a simplified version of the OPML outline format) rendering it readable to other outline-style programs such as Grazr or OPML Editor.
BrainStorm can now work with speech to text programs (Dragon Naturally Speaking, in particular) by adding an automatic ‘Enter’ for each spoken entry. This is set in ‘Editing options’

Here’s hoping development continues.
