I would never try to tell anyone what software should be worth to them, but to me TheBrain is well worth the price. I use TheBrain for most of my information management. And why should I expect to pay $40 for this great software? They now have native apps running on Windows and OSX, as well as iOS and Android. They have a reliable cloud service, which gives me the ability to see and manage my information through any browser. Also, TheBrain Technologies puts a lot of effort into helping me get the most from the software with their extensive free webinars.
Then there is the fact that it is just so much fun to use.

century happened. Apparently, TheBrain missed that particular
development. If you're Adobe or Microsoft you can get away with their
pricing. Otherwise? Tough sell.
As free software, it's way limited. Full-version? Nice but not that
nice.
