I do use Notebooks on Windows and iPad - and I love it.
It’s not perfect; the Windows version doesn’t deal with task management very well (not as well as the iOS version, anyway), which is why I don’t use Notebooks for task management. There are a few other functions missing, although the list is steadily shrinking.
The Windows version has one of the more important features of the iOS version, however: an amazing ability to preserve the format of web pages. That’s why I use Notebooks instead of Surfulater. The search function is also pretty good (again, not as good as the iOS version, but acceptable). Also, Notebooks is capable of holding a lot of text. I mean, a LOT of text (I have several million words stored in my Notebooks).
On Windows at least, it’s pretty stable. I’ve not experienced major problems dragging and dropping (not recently, anyway).
The leisurely pace of development of Notebooks may put some people off - I prefer to regard it as a commitment to quality. The desktop version is, after all, still free (in beta), and I’m sure that’s because Alfons and his colleagues are busy wiping out the final set of bugs. Version 1.0 of the desktop app (for Mac and Windows) was due out before Christmas - I discussed this with Alfons back in early December - and the fact it hasn’t been released yet suggest bugbashing is still ongoing.
