Thank you for the recent discussions on Mac workflows for a PhD thesis (and other academic writing). I’ve benefited greatly. Let me quickly summarize what I’ve learnt:
- Use TBX - thanks Steve Z
- Keep it simple - thanks Huge and Alexander D
- Just write - thanks Jim O
Still, as the dust settles, I find myself groping for the last few puzzle pieces to my master plan - muahhhhhhhhhahahahaaa. At my current stage of CRIMP development this centers on getting data (mainly textual) imported and exported between different apps, painlessly. Eventually I hope to move between Zotero/other ref mgr with pdf - Devonthink - Tinderbox - Scrivener - Word. (The first part half of this workflow is the trickiest.)
Albeit some apps have clearly been developed to “talk” to their favorite buddies (e.g. Tinderbox-Scrivener using OPML). Furthermore, different people have different workarounds based on how they use their software. So, I have a request. While I realize many great suggestions and links to various plugins, extensions, workarounds, etc. have already been posted I hope we can collect these in one concise thread. Here are a few to get us started:
[Import - Export // Solution or Link // Notes]
Zotero - Bibdesk // Zot2Bib extension : http://mackerron.com/zot2bib/ //
Zotero - Dropbox // http://forums.zotero.org/discussion/16827?page=1#Item_16 //
Skim - Bibdesk // http://screencast.com/t/mrsKz48upgZ //
DevonThink - Bibdesk // http://www.organognosi.com/category/bibdesk/#codesyntax_1 //
Tinderbox - Scrivener // OPML (for other apps e.g. Bookends, DevonThink see http://www.acrobatfaq.com/atbref5/index/ImportExportFormatting/Supportforotherapp-speci.html //
