OK, I’ll settle for 16-bit. I suppose few know and fewer care if their outliner actually uses 16 or 32 bit executable code.
Re sloppiness, I suppose programmers have always “satisficed” by fixing only as many bottlenecks as needed to avoid excessive subjective slowness. End users probably have moderately higher expectations now than 10-15 years ago; perhaps consumes one order of magnitude of the 2-3 orders of magnitude of hardware improvement we’ve experienced.
These issues exist for all contemporary software. What is it about Windows outliners that makes them especially hard to code satisfactorily?
