I have been told by a developer of a search program and others that some of the 32-bit compilers are dogs when it comes to speed. When one examines how many files Windows opens when a Win 95/98 program is opened, it’s no wonder.
In the case of the search software, the 16-bit version runs twice as fast as the 32-bit version. I’ve been told that the latest versions of MS VB are particularly bloated.
Further, way back when, developers had to write tight code due to hardware limitations. Now many get sloppy.
